027 — Astral

2

“Astral” means, of, relating to, or coming from the stars.

(note on the background image used in this month’s post: the night that image was taken happened to be the same night a Chinese Rocket came into the atmosphere and flew from one end of the sky to the other. A rocket ball of fire and sparks. It was the most beautiful and surreal things I’ve ever experienced while shooting the night sky in the middle of the Arizona lands. Which in retrospect is a perfect image to use for this Sci-Fi tribute!)

"Astral" is an instrumental tribute to the iconic women of science fiction who have shaped my cinematic experience in the Sci-Fi genre.

Characters like Trinity from The Matrix played by Carrie Anne-Moss

Princess Leia in Star Wars played by Carrie Fisher

Ellen Louise Ripley in Alien played by Sigourney Weaver

Sarah Connor in Terminator played by Linda Hamilton

These women specifically in the Sci-Fi genre really made me feel things when I saw them on screen. These were the films I watched when I was growing up. These were the films that made me fall in love with cinema. And these women in particular left a mark on me as a media composer and writer.

This piece is a homage into what defines heroism and resilience.

I crafted this with synth sounds, electric guitar leads, and bass synth, all set against a backdrop of rhythmic loop.

It's a futuristic ode, a synth-heavy symphony, that pays tribute to the women who have stood at the forefront of our favorite sci-fi narratives—pioneers who not only fought battles and navigated through the darkest corners of space and earth but also broke barriers and paved the way for new stories to be told.

As always, thank you for being here. Thank you for listening.

Enjoy
