I wrote this recently when I got back from visiting some abandoned military forts in Liepaja Latvia.
It’s an interesting spot.
I have a lot of love for it.
Literal forts sunken into the Baltic sea.
When I first visited this place back in 2018, I saw all these forts and thought about all my own ‘forts’ that I built to either ‘protect myself’ or secure an idea of who I thought I needed to be.
I spent a lot of time staring at them. Thought a lot about what I needed to sink into the sea.
Its was this place that started me on the path of pursuing other avenues of creativity.
This piece is just exploring the emotional toll it takes to see something sink into the sea. It is sort of a love letter to what this place has meant to me.

The Northern Fort is an integral part of the Liepāja Fortress. Here you can walk subterranean labyrinth and bunkers, get information about Liepāja Fortress, its history and construction.
Several fortifications were constructed at the end of the 19th century in the territory where Karosta now lies, in the centre of Liepāja and near the southern border of the city in order to protect the navy base from potential enemy attack.
The Northern Fort is the most well-known and visually impressive part of Liepāja’s fortress. Web link for more info
